The study of French as a foreign language offers numerous benefits to our children at White Cliffs Primary and Nursery School. It enhances their cognitive abilities, promotes cultural understanding, and lays a foundation for further language learning. Our aim is to provide a rich and engaging learning experience that ensures all children develop important linguistic skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing in French.

In line with the 2014 National Curriculum, our French lessons focus on the three key areas of language learning: phonics, vocabulary, and grammar. Phonics forms an essential aspect of language acquisition, and we dedicate ample time to developing accurate pronunciation skills. To facilitate this, we use a range of multimedia resources, interactive activities, and games to make learning enjoyable and memorable.

Vocabulary building is another vital aspect of our French curriculum. We expose the children to a wide range of age-appropriate vocabulary through thematic units, such as animals, food, family, and greetings. Through regular revision and reinforcement, we aim to consolidate their understanding and enable them to communicate effectively in real-life situations.

We introduce basic grammar concepts gradually, ensuring that children develop a solid foundation. This includes teaching simple sentence structures, verb conjugations, and basic grammatical rules. Our approach involves a combination of direct instruction, individual and group activities, and regular formative assessments to gauge progress and offer personalized support.

We are dedicated to providing our children with a meaningful and enjoyable French language learning experience. By following the 2014 National Curriculum in England's requirements and incorporating engaging teaching methods, we believe that our students will develop a solid foundation in French, laying the groundwork for future language learning and cultural exploration.
