Rabbit Class (Year 3)
Welcome to Year 3
On this page you will find information about what Rabbit Class are getting up to and see some of their amazing learning.

This week in English, Year 3 have been exploring setting descriptions using The Emerald City from The Wizard of Oz as our inspiration. We focused on using the five senses to bring our writing to life and included exciting similes to make our descriptions more vivid and imaginative.
After writing our setting descriptions, we entered them into AI image software, which generated a picture based on our words. This helped the children see whether they had described their setting clearly enough. They were able to edit and improve their work by adding more detail where needed.
To finish our project, we designed and created our own beautiful Emerald City doors, placing our final setting descriptions inside.

This week, Year 3 explored how to make buildings strong enough to survive an earthquake! Using junk modelling, we designed and built our own structures. We learnt how engineers use shock absorbers to soften shakes, strong joints to keep buildings together, and X-shaped supports for extra stability. Some groups even added a pendulum to balance movement.

Year 3 had a fantastic day stepping back in time on their visit to Hampton Court Palace. The children were full of excitement as they explored the magnificent home of King Henry VIII, discovering what life was like in a real Tudor palace.
We participated in a Tudor Kitchens Workshop, where the children learnt how the enormous palace kitchens once fed over 600 people every single day. The children were able to imagine the hustle and bustle of Tudor cooks at work.
During the workshop, the children handled replica artefacts, investigated Tudor ingredients, and found out about the different roles in the kitchen, from spit boys to master cooks. They were fascinated to learn how food was prepared without modern appliances and how meals reflected power and status at the royal court.
After the workshop, Year 3 enjoyed exploring other parts of the palace, including the Great Hall, Chapel, Council Chamber, King Henry’s tennis court and the beautiful gardens. The trip was a wonderful opportunity to connect their classroom learning with real historical surroundings.
