School Council
Welcome to the School Council page!
The School Council plays an important role in the running of White Cliffs.
Meeting at regular times throughout the year, a School Council representative is voted for by each class. These children share the views of the children in their class with Mrs Farrier and give ideas for future projects the school would like to get involved with. This includes raising money for different charities and organisations such as Comic Relief and Children in Need.

Term 6
On Monday 8th June the School Council met together to discuss and review some of the iniatives that we have put in place this year. The agenda of the meeting was shared prior to today and the children met with their classes and teachers to discuss our OPAL play offer, lost property and our attendance raffle incentive. The meeting was very positive and the children shared some realistic and sensible suggestions for new play experiences during lunchtimes such as climbing, equipment tailored more to KS2 children and small, chill spaces to hang out in.
We discussed the mountain of lost property that we currently have and thought of ways to help solve this situation. The School Council decided the most helpful thing to do is to ensure we are correctly naming all our belongings and want to launch a poster competition to share around the school and with parents to remind them. They were also very keen on getting each item back to its rightful owner by inviting families in to find their missing belongings and decided anything that is remaining will be washed and sold at reduced prices during our summer fair.
Term 5
This term began very successfully for the School Council. The lunch menu for the summer terms was realised and we were delighted to see that lots of our suggestions were now included in the lunch offer for White Cliffs. The highlighted options were all suggestions that came from class discussions and a fantastic meeting with Harrison's Catering company. We have planned to meet with Lorraine and Shaun again at the end of Term 6 to finalise the Autumn/Winter menu for Term 1 2026.

Unfortunately, this term has been incredibly busy with the school supporting the Year 6 children through their SATS. The next school council meeting will be in Week 2 of Term 6.
Term 4
On Monday 2nd March the School Council presented the plans for Red Nose Day in a whole school assembly. We delivered our message confidently and clearly, explaining why it was important to raise as much money as possible for Comic Relief. We celebrated our efforts in previous terms and challenged the whole school to a 'Crazy Hair Day'. We shared the year group treat that has been agreed by Mrs Castle and explained that the most creative hairstyle in each key stage will recieve a certificate. Posters have been put up around school and will be shared with parents too. We cannot wait to see how much we will raise this term!

On Monday 16th March the school council met with Mrs Castle, Shaun and Lorraine from Harrison Catering company to discuss and share their suggestions for the up-and-coming school summer lunch menu. The meeting was incredibly positive with lots of the classes suggestions being accepted onto the menu, such as bring back lasagne, rice pudding, peach crumble, chicken tikka curry and additonal cut-fresh fruit options. We invited EM from Year 6 along to the meeting as he had been conducting a petition to bring back pasties. He presented his petition of 90 signatures and was incredibly happy when Shaun agreed to a delicous bean and cheese pasty beeing added to the menu! We look forward to seeing the final summer menu when it is released next term.

On Friday 20th March the school took part in Crazy Hair Day for Comic Relief. The children of White Cliffs looked amazing, with very creative and elaborate hair styles. The event raised a fabulous £191.56 for a brilliant charity. Kyla and Marley decided on the winners of the most creative hairstyles in each key stage and the year group who raised the most money recieved their treat of a PJ afternoon with a film and hot chocolate. A huge well done to our wonderful winners and Year 4 on all your efforts.

Term 3
This term School Council met to discuss up-and-coming events in readiness for Term 4. We checked the calendar and noted that Comic Relief was planned for week 4 of next term. We discussed their fundraising ideas and it was decided that a 'crazy hair day' would be a fun idea. We then were tasked with speaking to our classes, sharing the ideas we have had and asking their opinions and views about what good incentives to raise the most money would be.
When we returned to meet for a second time, we all brought ideas and notes from our class discussions. White Cliffs suggested that certificates for an individual winner in each key stage would be good and it had to include a certificate for the adults too! They also voted for a whole class/year group treat for the most money raised and suggested a PJ afternoon with hot chocolate and a snack as an amazing prize to win.
The School Council requested to deliver a launch assembly to the whole school which is planned for week 2 of next term as they feel it will have a better impact coming from them. Mrs Castle has agreed with all School Council requests and we are now planning and writing our assembly.
Term 2
This term School Council met to discuss ways to fundraise and support Children in Need. We discussed the different ways in the past we have celebrated and the group decided that we needed to do better to raise the most money we could. But how?
We discussed PJ days, Break the Rules days and dress ups. Freddie (Y5) suggested perhaps something with sponsorship and the idea was set. The school were to take part in 25 sponsored laps of the school field and Pudsey parties were to be held in the afternoon of the event day.
Mrs Farrier held a whole school assembly to introduce this years plan and the flyers and sponsor forms were sent home.

What happened next was incredible!
Our wonderful White Cliffs families delved deep into their pockets and raised a fantastic amount of money for such a worthy charity. We were amazed by the genorosity of the fundrasing and contacted our local press, with our picture making it onto the TV news that night!
Thank you ever so much White Cliffs for raising such a staggering amount of money!

Term 1
On Monday 22nd September, the school council held their first meeting. We discussed attendance rewards, created our class bio posters and discussed ways to fundraise for Young Minds this term.
White Cliffs raised a brilliant £113.65! A huge thank you to everyone who supported this cause with us!

The children launched a new attendance reward system which was decided by our school council team. The classes are now working to earn weekly raffle tickets for 100% attendance. These are then entered into a draw at the end of the term and 5 winners will be selected, winning fantastic prizes from their class prize box (art equipment, stationery, books etc).

And the votes are in...
Please meet the School Council team for 2025.

School Council Launch 2025
On Monday 8th September 2025 Mrs Farrier launched the school council elections in assembly. Over the next 2 days, the children who would like to be considered to represent their class will write their 'manifestos' and present these to their classmates. On Friday 12th September we will host a White Cliffs Polling Station and each class will vote for their favourite candidate, emmulating the voting system we use in our society.
Here are some examples of the different 'manifestos' from the children across the school.

Welcome back to another great year!
Mrs Farrier and the Year 6 School Councillors spent some time, ahead of the new elections, looking at all the great things our School Council have achieved. Last year we raised money for Children in Need with a pyjama day and Comic Relief with our 'break the rules' day. These were very exciting and a super way to support these great charities. We also discussed what it means to be a part of the school council and have shared some thoughts from our past representatives.
