This week, White Cliffs Primary celebrated UK Parliament Week with a festive twist! Children were invited to take part in a ballot to vote for their favourite Christmas character. The candidates were: The Grinch Santa The Elf The Snowman In assembly, pupils worked together to create candidate manifestos packed with persuasive reasons why each character deserved to win. Mrs Farrier also hosted two lively debate sessions during the week, giving everyone the chance to share ideas and opinions. The Results: Total votes cast: 151 Children enthusiastically joined lunchtime debates before making their choice. And the winner is… The Grinch!

To celebrate UK Parliament week White Cliffs are holding a festive ballot. The ballot box and papers are ready for the children to vote for their favourite Christmas character. The candidates are the Grinch, Santa, the Elf and the Snowman. In assembly this morning, the children came up with ideas to build the candidate manifestos, full of reasons as to why each character should be voted as the best. Mrs Farrier will be hosting two debate sessions this week to allow the children to voice their suggestions and opinions. 

This week we are learning all about staying safe on the roads! We kicked things off with a fun assembly where the children watched a short safety video and took part in a quiz to test their knowledge. It was a great way to remind everyone how important it is to look out for each other when walking, cycling, or travelling in a car. Today, our school came together to mark Remembrance Day with a moving assembly led by our Year 6 pupils. We paused to reflect and honour those who gave their lives for our freedom. Why do we remember? Remembrance Day is observed on the 11th of November each year to commemorate the end of World War I in 1918 and to honour all those who have served and sacrificed in wars and conflicts since. The red poppy has become a symbol of remembrance, inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields, reminding us of the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for peace. The assembly included three special songs that we had learnt for this occasion.  Each class took turns to lay a wreath at our school cenotaph, showing gratitude and remembrance in a meaningful way. https://youtube.com/shorts/Y2BKk98nq8M?feature=share  

As part of Anti-Bullying Week, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils had the privilege of welcoming PCSO Carl Brett from Kent Police. Carl delivered an engaging and informative session where he discussed: Different forms of bullying – including physical, verbal, and online. How to report bullying – ensuring pupils know the right steps to take. The impact bullying has on others – helping everyone understand why kindness matters. The law surrounding bullying and harassment – explaining what the law says and why these behaviours are taken seriously. Children also took part in an interactive activity where they listened to a series of real-life scenarios and worked together to identify the type of bullying involved. This helped them think critically about how bullying can appear in different situations and reinforced the importance of speaking up. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about staying safe, supporting each other, and building a positive school community.  

Anti-Bullying Week is here, and what better way to start than with a splash of colour and creativity? Odd Socks Day is all about celebrating what makes us unique. On this day, we encourage everyone—students, staff, and families—to wear their brightest, boldest, and most mismatched socks. Why? Because being different is something to be proud of! Why Odd Socks? Odd Socks Day is a fun, light-hearted way to send a powerful message: it’s okay to stand out. Just like socks, we all come in different shapes, sizes, and patterns—and that’s what makes the world interesting. By wearing odd socks, we show that differences should be celebrated, not bullied. Together Against Bullying Anti-Bullying Week is more than a campaign—it’s a commitment to creating safe, inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued. Odd Socks Day is just the beginning. Year 4 have been reading the Greek Myth of King Midas. This week they planned, wrote and edited letters to Dionysus to persuade him to reverse the wish of the golden touch. The children then aged paper using coffee, wrote their final letters to the ancient Greek God and rolled them into scrolls.

Year 3 stepped back in time to the Tudor era and became King Henry VIII for the day! The children wrote royal invitations to a grand feast at Hampton Court Palace. To make their letters truly authentic, they even sealed them with a traditional wax seal—just like in Tudor times!
