Year 6 - Ants and Foxes
Year 6 Sparks Their Learning with Electricity!
This week, Year 6 began their exciting new Science topic: Electricity.
To start our learning journey, we revisited and recapped our knowledge from Year 4. The children worked hard to remember key vocabulary and concepts, discussing the different uses of electricity in our everyday lives and recalling what they already knew about simple circuits.
After refreshing our prior learning, we explored the components needed to make a complete electrical circuit. We examined items such as cells, wires, bulbs and switches, discussing the role each part plays in allowing electricity to flow. Through practical investigation and observation, the children identified how all of the components must be connected correctly to create a complete circuit and make electrical devices work.
It was fantastic to see the curiosity and enthusiasm shown by the children as they developed their scientific understanding. We are looking forward to building on this knowledge in the coming weeks as we investigate conductors, insulators and more complex circuits. A brilliant start to our new topic!
Year 6 have launched into their exciting Viking-themed learning by joining their class clans and creating their clan names using Viking runes. Working together, the children carefully designed and wrote their clan identities using this ancient writing system, just as the Vikings once did.
Will you find yourself in the clever Fox Clan or the determined Ant Clan? As the term unfolds, both clans will earn points, tackle challenges, and compete for victory. The question is... which clan will be crowned champions by the end of the Term? Only time will tell!
Welcome, Year 6!
We are delighted to welcome all of our Year 6 children to Ant and Fox Class! Mr Danton, Mr Grylls, Mrs Coleman and Miss Castle are excited to see everyone and begin what promises to be a fantastic year together.
We are starting the year with an exciting new topic: Vikings. Over the next two terms, we will explore the history, events and personal stories from this significant period in time. To make our learning even more memorable, we have a fantastic trip planned for Term 1, giving us the opportunity to bring our classroom learning to life and deepen our understanding of the topic.
Year 6 is a very special year. As your final year in primary school, it is a time to challenge yourself, develop greater independence and prepare for the exciting transition to secondary school. In Ant and Fox Class, we believe in working hard and making the most of every opportunity. By giving our best effort in the classroom, we can celebrate our successes and enjoy the many exciting experiences that Year 6 has to offer.
This year will be filled with new challenges, achievements and unforgettable memories. We cannot wait to see all that you accomplish and are looking forward to sharing this important journey with you. Let's make this a brilliant year from the very beginning!
Welcome back, Year 6 – we're ready for an amazing year together!
This term, Year 6 will be exploring the exciting world of the Vikings. We will discover who the Vikings were, where they came from, and how they lived, worked and travelled. Throughout the term, we will investigate Viking settlements, beliefs, battles and the impact they had on Britain, uncovering what life was really like during this fascinating period of history.
To enrich our learning, we will be reading She Wolf by Dan Smith, an exciting historical adventure that follows the journey of a young Viking. Through the story, we will gain a deeper understanding of Viking life, culture and traditions while developing our reading and writing skills.
To bring our learning to life, we will also be taking part in an exciting Viking experience, where the children will have the opportunity to become Vikings for the day. This immersive trip will allow them to step back in time, take part in hands-on activities and gain a deeper understanding of Viking life beyond the classroom.
We are looking forward to a term full of discovery, adventure and unforgettable learning experiences as we travel back in time to explore all there is to know about the Vikings!
