Go wild for reading with the Summer Reading Challenge! For this year’s Challenge The Reading Agency has partnered with WWF to create ‘Wild World Heroes’ which will inspire children to take action for nature and the environment. Join the Wild World Heroes for an exciting adventure in the fictional town of ‘Wilderville’. Through reading books, collecting rewards and learning all about our planet, Challenge participants will help the Heroes make Wilderville a greener place to live. With exclusive incentives to collect and plenty of brilliant books to enjoy, the Challenge is the perfect summer activity to build young readers’ skills and confidence during the long break from school. The Challenge is available in libraries across the UK this summer. Children can also take part online through the official digital Challenge platform wildworldheroes.org.uk. Sports Week: Next week (21 – 18 June) is Sports Week. The children will be taking part in sporting games and activities throughout the week. They will have a ‘mini-sports day’ with competitive sports. Sadly, due to Covid restrictions, we are unable to invite parents and carers to this event. I’m sure there will be lots of photos on our school website for you to see. Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit every day next week. P.E. uniform is a white polo or T- shirt and black shorts. If the weather is cool, children can wear a plain tracksuit. Sun Protection: As the sun is so powerful at the moment, please apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school in the morning. Staff will not apply sunscreen to children. However, parents can send in sunscreen in a named bag. Children will have to apply this themselves. They must not share sunscreen with any other child. Please also provide your child with a named hat for when they are outside.

Our Super Scientists from Year 6 (in the Critical Worker Bubble) completed a science experiment on 3rd February. Each scientist write there own recount of the experiment and their observations: This is a cool experiment we did on the 3rd of February with skittles. This demonstrates osmosis. Osmosis happens in liquid it start for a high concentrated area to a low concentrated area. I poured water on skittles waited a few minutes. Then we start to see the colour moved from the skittles (high concentrated area) to everywhere else (the low concentrated area). Diffusion happens in a gases. Diffusion is where the particles move all around the room the same as osmosis (high concentrated area to a low concentrated area). For example, if you have a slice of cake the particles around the cake are move from a high concentrated area to a low concentrated area though diffusion. By Elouise in 6A What we did for science on the 3rd of February was amazing because we did an experiment with skittles to show osmosis. This experiment show how the colour moves form a high concentrated area (my skittles) to a low concentrated area (the empty plate). This represents how the osmosis happens in the liquid and makes the colour of the skittles move in a pattern the colour on the plate. Osmosis happens in a liquid. Diffusion happens in different gases. Diffusion is similar to osmosis as the particles travel from a high concentrated area to a low concentrated area. For example, when you spray deodorant from a can the gas enters the environment (high concentrated area) and spreads around the room (low concentrated area) until the gases is distributed out equally/evenly.
